Public holiday information

This annual page applies the researched Australia holiday framework to the protected 2028 date records. It keeps the calendar separate from evergreen history and celebration material and preserves official, projected, optional and subnational qualifications recorded for individual dates. State, province, canton, territory or other subnational holidays may apply separately and are not converted into nationwide dates here.

Offices

Check the applicable award, agreement and employer arrangements. A public holiday does not establish that every workplace is closed.

Banks

Financial institutions can have separate banking and settlement arrangements; sector-only holidays are not general public holidays.

Schools

Government-school calendars differ by jurisdiction and division. Private schools, local development days and some remote schools can differ.

Practical planning

Use the state calendar and its official source before booking. Local show holidays and substitute dates can affect transport and opening hours.

Frequently asked questions

Are these dates the same everywhere?

Use the calendar for the relevant state, territory or school division. Local and sector-only exceptions have their own coverage.

Are future dates confirmed?

Each dated entry carries its recorded status and official source. Unpublished dates are explicitly pending and are not guessed.

How do I find a holiday in this calendar?

Use Find a holiday to filter the displayed calendar by name. Select a state or territory first to search its complete calendar, including local and part-day entries.

How are long weekends calculated?

Choose the assumed weekend and press Calculate. Each result uses full-day public holidays from one jurisdiction only. Local holidays, sector-only dates and part-day holidays are excluded; employer schedules may differ.

Does an additional or substitute date replace the observance?

The recorded date role distinguishes additional holidays, substitute days and observances. Follow the official source and coverage note for the selected jurisdiction.

Are school holidays the same as public holidays?

No. School terms, breaks and student-free days have separate state or territory calendars. Some divisions use different dates, and individual schools can have additional arrangements.

What does the downloaded planner include?

The PDF uses the selected calendar and weekend assumption, with long-weekend planning, notes and official sources. A national overview keeps occasions separate from state-specific closures. The calendar download for a selected jurisdiction retains coverage and part-day hours.

What should I check before arranging leave?

Read the date status and coverage note, then check employer, bank, school and transport arrangements. Dates awaiting an official announcement are explicitly identified; a missing date does not mean a normal working day.
