History
World AIDS Day was established in 1988 by UNAIDS and World Health Organization. The first observance recorded by the establishing programme was in 1988. The official source remains the reference point for changes to the date, designation or annual campaign. The date is stored independently from country calendars so a global observance is never mistaken for a legal closure.
